Chisholm called his All-Star selection well-earned after battling through injury and surging back.
Yankees’ Jazz Chisholm Jr. calls All-Star selection well-deserved after comeback originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. didn’t campaign for it. The New York Yankees third baseman didn’t ask for sympathy votes. He just said what he believed.
“I mean, it got harder once I got hurt,” he said. “But, you know, came back, got high, and, yeah, you know, felt like I worked hard for me to the…” He trailed off, then added the part that mattered: “I felt like I earned it.”
It was a jumbled answer, but the message was clear. He’s not there on reputation. And he’s earned the right to say so.
Chisholm will represent the Yankees at the All-Star Game alongside Aaron Judge and Max Fried, giving New York a trio on the American League roster, which will be managed by Yankees skipper Aaron Boone and his staff.
This will be his second career All-Star appearance, but his first in pinstripes .
The numbers don’t lie. Since returning from the injured list, Chisholm has looked like the player the Yankees were hoping for: batting over .300, getting on base, showing off power and speed, and injecting life into the lineup with his energy.
While he made it abundantly clear he would prefer to play second base, he's moved to third for the benefit of the team. That has put him in some tough defensive spots where he's been less than stellar. That also has apparently put him physically in a tough spot as he sat out Sunday's win over the Mets with shoulder discomfort.
The All-Star nod is just confirmation of what’s been obvious to anyone watching closely.
