"The Big Woo" is officially back on the mound
Brewers' pitcher, Brandon Woodruff, made his first start on the mound since 2023 on Sunday afternoon against the Miami Marlins. Woodruff turned heads around the league after going six innings and allowing just two hits.
Woodruff missed four months in 2023 due to a right shoulder injury. He returned in August and September to make nine starts before he was shut down just before the 2023 postseason. The 32-year-old right-hander was then shut down for the entire 2024 season and experienced multiple setbacks in his rehab.
During Woodruff's first rehab stint, he experienced tendinitis in his right ankle just after spring training in a minor league assignment. After recovering, Woodruff was then hit by a line drive in another outing, causing another setback for the Tupelo, Mississippi native.
Woodruff made his last rehab start for Triple-A Nashville before rejoining the Brewers in Miami. "The Big Woo" made his first start in 652 days and looked as sharp as ever.
Woodruff's final line looked like this: 6.0, IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 8 K, and picked up his first win of the season.
Woodruff didn't allow a single hit or walk through his first two innings of his 2025 debut. His fastball was sitting around 91-92 MPH, and topped out at 96 for his fastest pitch of the day.
With Sunday's win over the Marlins, the Brew Crew clinched the series win. They sit four games back of the first-place Chicago Cubs. Woodruff and the Brewers will host the Dodgers Monday through Wednesday, who have lost three straight coming into the new week.
