What options are available for the Atlanta Braves at the trade deadline?
Things have not gone well for the Atlanta Braves this season, to put things lightly.
After being swept by the last-place Baltimore Orioles, the Braves sit at 39-50 entering the new week. It's the first time all year they've been more than 10 games under .500, the furthest they've been from a playoff spot (nine games out), and their starting rotation is now missing its top two contributors.
For the Braves to make the playoffs at this point, a minor miracle would need to occur. And with the trade deadline barely three weeks away, the clock is ticking on any shot of improving the roster.
In fact, one baseball insider is urging the Braves to do the very thing president of baseball operations Alex Anthopoulos has publicly pledged to avoid: sell off their expiring contracts.
On Sunday, as the Braves were in the process of dropping their series finale, Jon Morosi of MLB Network stated that a trade deadline sale appeared to be the only option available to this Atlanta club.
"Difficult to justify anything other than an outright 'sell' approach to the Trade Deadline," Morosi wrote on X.

Unfortunately, the Braves don't have all that much to unload. Someone might be interested in Marcell Ozuna because of his track record, but he's a designated hitter-only who was one of the worst hitters in the league in June.
Ditto for closer Raisel Iglesias, who has an expensive salary and is one of the least productive ninth-inning men in the league only a year removed from his best season ever.
It's amazing that things have become this bleak in Atlanta. But they should have a healthy Chris Sale and Spencer Schwellenbach back in 2026, so perhaps this is all setting up for a memorable revenge tour.
