A return to tradition is on the horizon during MLB All-Star festivities in 2025.

For the first time in six years, MLB All-Stars will wear their respective teams' uniforms during the Midsummer Classic. For many, it will be a welcome return to the norm, as the recent implementation of special All-Star jerseys strayed from the classic aesthetic the game traditionally held.

While the All-Star Game's sartorial choices will revert to what they once were, special All-Star jerseys aren't going away. The special, region-inspired All-Star uniforms will also get their time in the spotlight at Atlanta's Truist Park.

Here's everything to know about the uniform choices for the MLB All-Star Game in 2025.

Why MLB All-Stars aren't playing in All-Star jerseys

In September 2024, MLB announced that players would return to wearing primary home and road uniforms at the All-Star Game to represent their "hometown" teams for the game itself.

From 2021 to 2024, the MLB All-Star Game featured special All-Star jerseys, breaking away from a 90-year-old tradition.

With the game being played at the Braves' Truist Park, National League All-Stars will don their home whites while American League All-Stars will play in their road uniforms.

The All-Star Game will also feature special caps to go with the traditional uniforms.

MLB Home Run Derby jerseys

Players will wear special MLB All-Star uniforms during All-Star Workout Day and the Home Run Derby. These jerseys are inspired by the Braves' retro uniforms, typeface, and Truist Park.

This marks a return to a tradition held pre 2018, when derby participants wore uniforms specifically designed for All-Star.

Why Home Run Derby participants wore No. 3 and No. 44 jerseys

MLB All-Star will be held on Monday, July 14 (7/14) and Tuesday, July 15 (7/15), the numbers that reflect Babe Ruth's career home run total (714) and the number Hank Aaron historically reached at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium (715).

All National League Home Run Derby participants wore No. 44, honoring the Atlanta Braves icon in Aaron, while American League Home Run Derby participants honored Ruth by wearing No. 3.

It is worth noting that while Ruth became an icon in Yankees pinstripes, he finished his playing career with the Boston Braves, and hit home run No. 714 in a Braves uniform.

The idea was brought about by Hall of Fame pitcher CC Sabathia, who now holds a role as special assistant to MLB commissioner Rob Manfred.

When was the last time MLB wore primary uniforms for All-Star Game?

The last time MLB All-Stars wore primary uniforms for the All-Star Game was in 2019.

Primary uniforms were worn in MLB's All-Star Game from 1930 to 2019 before the temporary switch in 2021. No All-Star Game was played in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
