The Cubs need starting pitching.
The Chicago Cubs finished the first half of the 2025 season with two consecutive wins over the New York Yankees and maintained their perch atop the National League Central.
At 57-39, they have the second-best record in the Senior Circuit and lead the Milwaukee Brewers by a game. But they'll need to make some moves at the trade deadline.
The team is in need of pitching help, both with their starting rotation and their bullpen. There will be plenty of arms available.
Tyler Ward of Bleacher Report listed the Cubs as a possible fit for former Cy Young Sandy Alcantara.
"Due to the unfortunate injuries that they continue to sustain and a lack of consistency there that Sandy would be a nice piece that they can hopefully buy without giving up and arm and a leg and gain themselves a true formidable mid-rotation starter," Ward said on his podcast.

Alcantara, a two-time All-Star, has struggled with the Miami Marlins. He is 4-9 with a 7.22 ERA and a -1.6 WAR in 18 starts.
His contract status makes him an attractive trade candidate, as he has two years of club control remaining plus a club option for 2027. But due to his struggles, his value has gone down signficantly.
Still, a change of scenery might benefit him. The Marlins are well out of postseason contention, while the Cubs are a clear contender and have World Series aspirations.
With Justin Steele out for the season, it would be most beneficial for Chicago to have a frontline starter to go alongside Shota Imanaga.
We'll see where the Cubs land in their search for pitching.
