Red Sox All-Star Jarren Duran ‘Most Likely’ to Be Traded Among Crowded Outfield

Boston Red Sox All-Star Jarren Duran was named the "most likely" to be traded of the team's crowded outfielders.

The Boston Red Sox already shocked the world once this season when they shipped three-time All-Star Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants in a blockbuster deal. The odds that another trade elicits the same reaction are slim, but that does not mean the Red Sox cannot continue to make franchise-altering moves.

The club is overloaded in the outfield. All-Star Jarren Duran and gold glove winner Wilyer Abreu highlight the group, with top prospect Roman Anthony vying for an everyday role. The offensive emergence of Ceddanne Rafaela and the return of Masataka Yoshida add further pressure to decide who will be the odd man out.

Yet, only 2.5 games out of the Wild Card, the Red Sox may be reluctant to part ways with a second All-Star caliber player. Their standings caused one National League executive to call Boston “fascinating” in terms of what their trade deadline approach will be.

According to Jayson Stark of The Athletic, the rest of the league views the Red Sox as a team that needs to reconfigure its roster rather than shed money or a big name.

However, an American League executive told Stark that they believe Boston is looking to solve its long-term needs instead of the immediate future, leaving room to deal another top star at the deadline.

“I think [Jarren] Duran is probably in play for a lot of teams, the AL executive said. I think he’s the most likely of those players in their outfield to change teams.”

Duran is under contract through 2028 and should net a large return for Boston. Trading him could potentially fill multiple needs, including strengthening their starting rotation as soon as this season. Potential suitors include the Pittsburgh Pirates and Miami Marlins. Both boast multi-year controllable starters (Mitch Keller and Sandy Alcantara) that can aid Boston’s pursuit of a playoff spot this season while sustaining the rotation through 2027.
