Guardians may trade Emmanuel Clase at the deadline, according to insider Andre Knott.
The Cleveland Guardians don't appear to get into the postseason in 2025, which makes them sellers at the MLB trade deadline. Apart from Carlos Santana, another franchise mainstay who could be on his way out before the trade deadline is Emmanuel Clase.
Insider Matt Schmidt notes that the closer, who is under team control through 2028 for just $4.9 million this year, could command a “king’s ransom” in prospects if moved. Clase will earn $6.7 million next season and has two $10 million club options for the final two years of his contract.
Meanwhile, Cleveland insider Andre Knott suggests the club should aim for “two MLB‑ready hitters” in return, though current interest may center on prospect-heavy packages given the team could go for a rebuild.
"If you do that for Clase, you've got to get two hitters that can hit right now, that can play," Knott said on ESPN Cleveland.
Clase has been decent this season, posting a 4-2 record and holding a 3.20 ERA in 39.1 innings. He has 39 strikeouts and has recorded 19 saves. He's a three-time All-Star (2022-24) and could be handy for any postseason-contending team looking for a strong closer.
