Despite not meeting expectations so far, the Red Sox are still within striking distance of a wild card spot. Ever since Triston Casas went down, the team has been searching for answers at first base. NESN's Matt Dargan suggested the team trade for Josh Bell.
"Acquiring Bell would make a lot of sense for the Red Sox," wrote Dargan. "As a switch-hitter with power from both sides of the plate, adding the slugger would allow Red Sox manager Alex Cora to platoon Romy González at second base and Abraham Toro to slide into a proper utility role while continuing to earn starts against left-handed pitching."
Bell has been traded in three consecutive seasons and four times in his career. He will be a free agent after the season, and the Washington Nationals are set up to be sellers at the trade deadline.
Bell has a .216/.298/.368 slash line this year with 11 home runs. His numbers have not been great, but for the last two seasons, he has performed much better post-trade. Last year, his batting average jumped 40 points when he was traded from the Miami Marlins to the Arizona Diamondbacks. In 2023, his OPS rose over 100 points after the Cleveland Guardians traded him to the Miami Marlins.

He may not be the flashiest option, but he has 182 career home runs and a career OPS of .782. He could bring some much-needed power to the lineup.
