Kristaps Porzingis’ time in Boston might have been brief, but it sure was sweet an NBA championship tends to do that.
Now, as he heads off to join his fifth NBA team with the Hawks, the Celtics decided to take a moment to show him some love on his way out. Before he packs up for Atlanta, Boston shared a heartfelt parting message to thank Porzingis for everything he brought to the court and the locker room during his championship run in green.
The Celtics shared a collage of images featuring Porzingis with a caption that said, “Forever a Celtics Champion. Thank you for everything, KP.”
The Atlanta Hawks just pulled off a pretty big move, picking up Kristaps Porzingis and a 2026 second-round pick from the Celtics. In return, Boston is getting Georges Niang and a 2031 second-rounder.
But that’s not all the Hawks also sent Terance Mann and the draft rights to Drake Powell, this year’s No. 22 pick, to the Nets. And to round it all out, Brooklyn kicked in some cash to the Celtics to make the whole thing work.
Porzingis had a great season with the Celtics, averaging 19.5 points while shooting a career-best 41.2% from three. That put him 25th in the league for three-point percentage and second among all 7-footers, just behind Karl-Anthony Towns.
He even tied his career-high with eight threes in a game twice last season, the only 7-footer to do that multiple times. On top of that, he’s got over 900 blocks and 900 made threes in his career, which puts him in a pretty elite club of big men who can do both. Needless to say, the Hawks are receiving an excellent player that will surely strengthen their line up.
