Jayson Tatum quietly reacts to Jrue Holiday’s farewell from Boston.

The Boston Celtics will look a lot different when the 2025-26 NBA season tips off. The team will be without Jayson Tatum, who is recovering from the Achilles injury he suffered during the 2025 postseason.
They’ll also be without veteran guard Jrue Holiday, who played a pivotal role in Boston’s run to the 2024 NBA title. Holiday was recently traded to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Anfernee Simons.
On Monday, the Celtics posted a collage of photos thanking Holiday for his time in Boston. Tatum quietly acknowledged the tribute by reposting it on his Instagram Story without any caption.
Holiday, who turned 35 over the summer, played his college ball at UCLA before being selected 17th overall in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. Portland will be the fifth team of his NBA career.
Interestingly, Holiday was traded to Boston from Portland in September 2023, just four days after initially being acquired by the Blazers. That move was part of the blockbuster trade that sent Damian Lillard to the Milwaukee Bucks.
In April 2024, Holiday signed a four-year, $135 million extension with Boston. He made history that spring by becoming the first NBA player to win a title in his first season with two different franchises.
During the 2024-25 season, Holiday played in 62 games and averaged 11.1 points. He shot 90.9% from the free-throw line, bringing his career average up to 78.8%. His career scoring average sits at 15.8 points per game, with his highest mark coming during the 2018-19 season in New Orleans, when he averaged 21.2 points.
Holiday's departure leaves a leadership gap in Boston’s locker room, and the Celtics will now lean on their remaining core to maintain championship-level play while Tatum recovers.
