Darvin Ham’s coaching career with the Los Angeles Lakers remains a divisive topic for fans even after his departure. Hired in June 2022, Ham guided the Lakers to a Western Conference Finals appearance in his first season, but his second campaign ended in disappointment with a first-round playoff exit. Throughout his tenure, he faced heavy criticism for inconsistent rotations, lack of clear offensive identity, and frequent struggles to adjust during games — issues that frustrated both players and fans.
Despite his exit, Ham stayed in the league and joined the Milwaukee Bucks’ coaching staff under Doc Rivers. Now, however, reports have emerged that two other franchises are interested in prying him away from the Bucks.
According to NBA Insider Marc Stein, both the Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks are interested in hiring Ham for a position on their coaching staffs.
“Phoenix and now New York — after the hiring of Mike Brown as the Knicks' new head coach — have expressed interest in trying to hire Darvin Ham away from the Bucks,” Stein reported on Sunday.
News of possible new opportunities for Ham quickly drew reactions from Lakers fans, who have not forgotten his up-and-down stint in Los Angeles. Some were quick to share their disbelief at other teams targeting him for a job.
