Clark felt bad for what she did...
Caitlin Clark Apologized to Indiana Fever After Making Embarrassing WNBA History originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Caitlin Clark has missed nine straight games for the Indiana Fever during the 2025 WNBA season, still recovering from her second groin injury of the year.
Despite missing more than half the season, Clark has managed to break a record in nearly every game she has played. That trend started in her debut in May 2024, when the former Iowa Hawkeyes star made WNBA history, though not in a good way, with 10 turnovers, the most ever in a debut.
Clark Reveals Her Apology to the Fever
On Friday, Clark joined former Seattle Storm star Sue Bird on her podcast, "Bird's Eye View." When asked about her unfortunate record from her debut, Clark mentioned that she "felt really bad" for her 10-turnover game.
"Well, I will say I apologized to the team after that game," Clark said. "I felt really bad. ... But, I mean, like, I've had those games before, and I'm going to have another eight-turnover game in my career. Like that's just how I played, and people always try to make a big deal about that. And if you look at my turnovers in college, I bet I led the NCAA all-time in turnovers in my career. I'm not saying this is a good thing to brag about, but I don't know, it's just how I play."
Clark added that she understands she has room to improve.
"I can improve and get a lot better, and I understand that," Clark added. "And I feel like that's probably been one of the positives I've taken out of even this year."
Clark's Historic Rookie Season
Clark's debut came on May 14, 2024, a 92-71 loss to her current coach, Stephanie White, and the Connecticut Sun. Along with her record-setting 10 turnovers, Clark also recorded 20 points, three assists and two steals.
While the All-WNBA point guard went on to shatter the single-season turnover record with 223, most of her milestones were positive. Here are just a few of her records.
- Most assists in a single game (19)
- Most assists in a single season (337)
- Most points by a rookie in a season (769)
- The first triple-double by a rookie
Following a 2-2 West Coast road trip, the Fever will return home to face the Chicago Sky on Saturday. At the time of this article, it is unclear if Clark will be able to make her return. The game begins at 8 p.m. ET and will be televised on CBS.
