The New York Knicks have been one of the league’s top teams for the last couple of seasons now. Heading into next season, some are feeling very good about the team’s chances.
The Knicks have made the playoffs in four of the last five seasons, and have won 50 games or more in the regular season in back-to-back seasons. This past season, the Knicks won 51 games, and advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000.
ESPN broadcaster Mark Jones is one of those that is entering next season with high expectations for the Knicks. Appearing on Knicks Fan TV, Jones spoke very highly of the Knicks and their roster.
“I think the Knicks have the roster to win the east,” Jones said. “Espescially when I look at the incremental improvements that Mike [Brown] can make. I think Mike — knowing him — is way ahead of the game in New York, he’s already done his homework.”
The Knicks — who already have the star power of Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns — have also made numerous additions to their second unit ahead of next season. They’ve brought in Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele to give their bench a boost, and still have one more roster spot they can fill with another minimum contract player. As Jones insinuated, with Brown now in the fold as the head coach, expect the Knicks to dive deep into their bench for contributions, contrary to the Tom Thibodeau era. New York enters next season as one of the league’s deepest teams, and should be in the running to win the Eastern Conference.
