Giddey is currently a restricted free agent
Bulls’ offer for Josh Giddey revealed by NBA insider originally appeared on The Sporting News
The Chicago Bulls have been stuck in a strange contract dispute with Josh Giddey this offseason, with an offer made by the Bulls being revealed on Sunday.
Per NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Bulls offered Giddey a four-year, $80 million contract. Giddey is currently a restricted free agent, and is coming off of a strong season in his first with the Bulls.
Giddey was the return package for the trade that sent Alex Caruso to the Oklahoma City Thunder last offseason, and made quite an impact for the Bulls last season. He averaged 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game in 70 appearances. He has long been lauded for his all-around skill set, and elite passing ability.
The 22-year-old is a former lottery pick of the Thunder, averaging 13.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists in three seasons with the Thunder. Now in Chicago, he has turned himself into a potential cornerstone for the Bulls should they be able to retain him.
The Bulls have been mostly stuck in the mud the last couple of seasons, but after finally moving on from the DeMar DeRozan-Zach LaVine era, the team is now in search of their next franchise guy. While Giddey may not be that guy just yet, it’s hard to let a rising player such as him potentially walk for nothing. Should Giddey return, he figures to be one of the Bulls’ top players for next season as they continue their rebuild.
