One insider clarified a recent report regarding the Golden State Warriors and Jonathan Kuminga.
Warriors Insider Adds to Recent Jonathan Kuminga Trade Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Golden State Warriors' biggest offseason storyline was Jonathan Kuminga's restricted free agency. The process has now dragged out for over a month. The two sides haven't come together on a sign-and-trade scenario, and Kuminga has continued to turn down a 2-year, $45 million offer from the Warriors.
Tim Kawakami provides update to recent report
After a recent report from SF Standard's Tim Kawakami, many believed Golden State was pulling out of sign-and-trade talks for good.
"The Warriors unenthusiastically engaged in a few sign-and-trade discussions, but a source says they're now out on those talks and that Jonathan Kuminga will be on the team this season," Kawakami reported.
Sure, all signs point towards the Warriors keeping Kuminga on a short-term, trade-friendly deal. However, Kawakami was sure to clarify his report and make sure a trade isn't all the way ruled out.
"I know 90% of readers understand what I reported in this column -- that the Warriors are SAYING they won't trade Kuminga this summer," Kawakami added. "But to clarify some of the aggregation ... I'm not reporting that a trade is impossible. What I'm reporting is the GSWs' position now."

But to clarify some of the aggregation ...
I'm not reporting that a trade is impossible.

In all fairness, these conversations can take a turn, and they can do so quickly. The fact that Kuminga and the Warriors still haven't struck a deal of some sort only adds to the idea that nothing should be ruled out quite yet.
Last season, the 22-year-old forward averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. He looked brilliant early in the season -- like he was finally taking a leap -- until a January ankle injury sidelined him for two months.
By the time the G League Ignite product returned to the court, Golden State had acquired Jimmy Butler via trade, and Kuminga's role dwindled away on the team.
A different team won't only be Kuminga's pathway to long-term financial gains, but also an improved role and building upon his statistical averages from last season.
