The Chicago Sky have now dropped eight straight games heading into Tuesday night’s matchup against the Washington Mystics. For the third consecutive game, they will be without Angel Reese.

This marks the sixth game Reese has missed this season, primarily due to a lingering back injury that has kept her status day-to-day. However, Sky head coach Tyler Marsh provided a new and surprising update Tuesday after Reese missed the morning shootaround.

Reese’s absence wasn’t due to her back injury this time—instead, she’s dealing with an illness, which contributed to her being ruled out against Washington. The Sky have gone 1-10 in games without Reese over her two seasons in the league.

“No, today was more about… she woke up not feeling well, she’s under the weather, so I told her to stay home from shootaround. We’ll see how she feels tomorrow,” Marsh said.

Reese is having a stellar season, but it appears her second year in the WNBA won’t translate into many wins—much like her rookie year when the Sky finished 13-27.

Currently, Chicago holds a 7-21 record with 16 games remaining, leaving them firmly on the outside looking in for a playoff berth. With each loss, their postseason hopes grow dimmer.

Despite the team’s struggles, Reese has once again been named a WNBA All-Star for the second consecutive year. She continues to establish herself as one of the league’s best pure rebounders, averaging a double-double with 14.2 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.
