The Los Angeles Clippers have been busy collecting talent this offseason a new trade idea could give them a path to adding one more former All-Star.
Clippers Trade Idea Would Bring DeMar DeRozan to LA originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
After majorly revamping their lineup ahead of the 2025-26 season, the Los Angeles Clippers' work seems to be done for this offseason.
The team has already filled some major holes by acquiring Bradley Beal, Chris Paul, John Collins, and Brook Lopez without incurring too much of a cost.
Those move have given the Clippers a roster that is clearly improved from the one that managed to win 50 games this past season.
Maybe that doesn't mean they have to be done making notable movs for the summer.
Fadeaway World's Siddhant Gupta has proposed a trade that would bring another veteran with a long list of accolades to the Clippers.
Gupta's trade idea would send Bogdan Bogdanovic and Derrick Jones Jr. to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for DeMar DeRozan.
If anybody was wondering how you could possibly make the oldest team in NBA history even older, this is it.
DeRozan will be 36 later this week, but showed that he still had plenty left in the tank last season.
During his first season with the Kings, DeRozan averaged 22.2 points, 4.4 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game.
Despite a solid season in Sacramento, it seems DeRozan could be available for trade right now. I assume it's because the Kings realized that copying the Bulls and pairing DeRozan with Zach LaVine isn't the best path to contention.
If the goal for the Clippers is to just keep accruing talent then this move could work for them.
However, I'm not quite so sure about the fit. Jones Jr. was an important part of the defense the Clippers built last season and should be a solid piece for them off the bench again next season.
DeRozan doesn't offer the same kind of impact defensively.
Where he can really shine for a contender right now is as a scorer. I'm just not sure the way that he scores is a great fit for the Clippers.
DeRozan is a menace in the midrange. He's not a great three-point shooter, knocking down just 32.8% of his looks from outside last season.
Kawhi Leonard already gives the Clippers somebody in the starting lineup with a strong midrange game. That starting lineup also has Ivica Zubac, who provides no floor spacing. I'm not sure that Beal and James Harden could stretch the floor enough themselves to give the offense enough space to operate.
I think he's too expensive to bring in as a backup and I can't imagine he'd be open to coming off the bench for pretty much the first time in his career.
Maybe the Clippers are more creative than I am and can see a way to get him enough time on the court with their best floor spacers, but I just don't really see this as a great fit as the last piece in LA.
