The San Diego Padres entered this MLB season looking to redeem themselves following another early playoff exit. San Diego was one of the better teams in baseball last season, but they ran into the rival Los Angeles Dodgers in the playoffs.
San Diego currently holds a record of 47-41 on the season, but they are currently eight games behind Los Angeles for the division lead. The Padres are competing for a wild-card playoff spot, and they still believe they can win it all.
But one way to make that happen is to be active at the trade deadline that is quickly approaching. And it seems that San Diego is expected to do just that.
According to MLB insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the San Diego Padres may be preparing to make some big moves at the trade deadline.
"The Padres are spreading the word to every seller that they are searching for a right-handed hitting outfielder and a catcher, and aren’t afraid to deal their prospects. They still believe they have the team to end their World Series drought, particularly with Yu Darvish’s imminent return and potentially Michael King's shortly after the All-Star break," Nightengale wrote.
The Padres need to add some firepower to this team, and they have never been known to sit things out. General manager A.J. Preller is known for taking risks, and it could see this organization make some big moves again.
San Diego has a lot of talent on the roster, but injuries have hurt them this year. But if they can add to this team, they could be a very tough out come playoff time.
