LSU tweaks Tristen Keys' NIL package to fend off Tennessee in battle for prized five-star prospect

The LSU Tigers are trying to assemble a great recruiting class, which includes holding onto five-star Tristen Keys. The Vols are a potential flip candidate, but LSU may have just made it a little harder.

The Tennessee Volunteers are looking to build off the success of their 2025 season. However, they've faced adversity since April, when Nico Iamaleava abruptly left the program, forcing the coaching staff to rethink the entire plan for the quarterback room. Despite the setback, the Vols are gearing up for the upcoming season and continuing to strengthen their 2026 recruiting class. One of their top flip targets is five-star wide receiver Tristen Keys, who has spoken highly of his connection with Tennessee.

“Tennessee I’m in love with the coaches, recruits, players, all that," said Keys. "I like the environment, fanbase, all that type of stuff. They just make me feel comfortable.”

Keys has been a major priority for Tennessee since the start, and his commitment to LSU came as a bit of a surprise. However, On3’s Chad Simmons believes the Vols are still the most likely team to flip him if he decides to decommit from LSU.

Tennessee already has five-star quarterback Faizon Brandon set to sign with the 2026 class, making Keys an ideal addition. But LSU isn’t backing down. According to On3’s Shea Dixon, the Tigers have recently made a move to solidify Keys' commitment.

”The latest tidbit worth noting: LSU has recently restructured the NIL package for Keys, sources tell me,” wrote Dixon. “That has LSU carrying some increased confidence that the No. 1 wide receiver in the 2026 class remains on board with his commitment to the Tigers.”

Keys is one of the most sought-after high school prospects in the country, and whichever program lands him will benefit greatly. A to Z Sports’ Zach Ragan expects the battle for Keys to go down to the wire.

“This battle will likely continue until the early signing period begins in December. Tennessee certainly has a shot at being the team that signs Keys, but LSU clearly isn’t going down without a fight,” Ragan said.

Keys has strong relationships with Tennessee’s coaching staff, current players, and several 2026 commits. While LSU may have improved their NIL offer, the Vols are expected to do whatever it takes to win the race.
