FC Bayern coach Vincent Kompany learned the hard way in rare defeat to Augsburg

Guess what? FC Bayern didn’t get away with it.

Seeing Bayern Munich on the losing side this season is rare and unexpected, but they’ve just done it against a relegation threatened Augsburg and got played off the park in the process. Vincent Kompany wanted to see if putting the team on autopilot would be enough to get the win. Spoiler alert: it didn’t.

“This result is for the people who always knew that the Bundesliga is not easy, and that every game is risky”, Kompany began (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia). “We were stable in the first half, without a lot of creativity. It was a game where you say: okay, we played 5 games in 13 days – maybe we get a result today without a spectacular performance. I’m more disappointed with the result than with the performance. We were in a good position and we gave it away. We couldn’t bring the same energy as in the past games in the second half. Congratulations to Augsburg. It’s part of football. Now it’s about showing a reaction”.

Bayern will need some reaction to bounce back from this. If they go into the game against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League and pull off the same performance, alarm bells might be ringing.
