A few players played well for Chelsea last night in their win over Charlton, and the likes of Jorrel Hato and Liam Delap got praise from their manager.
But one whose name wasn’t mentioned, but probably deserves more credit, was Facundo Buonanotte.
The Argentine looked to benefit from new manager Liam Rosenior’s new shape, which saw him in the attacking line of a box midfield.
He got an assist, and could have had a couple more. In just 69 minutes on the pitch he created 3 chances for his team, with an xA of 0.5. He made an impressive 62 touches in his time on the pitch.
Amazingly for such a small player, his duels stats were superb. He won 6/8 of his ground duels and 1/1 in the air. He was behind just Benoit Badiashile and Moises Caicedo in successful duels.

We don’t see him playing much more this season barring serious injuries. Those positions are crowded right now, with Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez, Joao Pedro and potentially Estevao among those jockeying for minutes in the hole there.
But Buonanotte has shown that he’s a decent player in the right situation, and probably hasn’t done his chances of a solid permanent move somewhere next season some good.
In other news…
Liam Rosenior got a big win in his first game – as good as you can get new a new manager. But there’s a lot of negativity not to do with him at the club right now, that he has to deal with.
Jorrel Hato played in an usual role last night, in a similar inverted left sided half space setup to the one we saw Marc Cucurella play in a lot under Enzo Maresca. It looks like that’s something that will continue under Liam Rosenior.
