Roma have been working on the Giacomo Raspadori deal for a few weeks at this point, but the player isn’t chomping at the bit to join them because he’s waiting to see whether Napoli could arrange a reunion. Moreover, he hasn’t lost faith in convincing Diego Simeone to give him more minutes, AS relays (via Eurosport).
It might not be long before the Giallorossi pivot toward different strikers if he doesn’t make up his mind. Their director, Frederic Massara, recently stated that the deal would be decided one way or the other in short order.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma have struck an agreement with Atletico Madrid and have given Raspadori plenty of reassurances about a future permanent switch despite the formula, as he doesn’t want to have to find a new team in the summer, but Napoli could upset their apple cart.
The capital club has further improved its proposal, tendering €4M per year, and can’t raise it further. The Partenopei can’t accelerate at this stage due to their financial constraints. The situation could change later in the window if they offload on either Lorenzo Lucca or Noa Lang, or both. Moreover, the playmaker isn’t necessarily eager to flee.
Our Take on Roma, Napoli, and Raspadori
It’s pretty jarring that the Giallorossi pursued him for so long and with so much conviction without being certain they’d be his top destination and that he was adamant about leaving. Antonio Conte would surely be pleased not to have to integrate a real newcomer. However, it would have to be an addition, not a replacement, or it wouldn’t solve their chronic depth problems.
