For a non-conference game, this should be a good test for Greg Schiano's program − the Bobcats went 11-3 last year and won the MAC championship.
On paper Rutgers has arguably the most talented roster it's had since Schiano's return. But the Scarlet Knights' schedule, especially later in the season, is brutal with games against Oregon, Ohio State and Penn State on the slate.
That's why it's crucial for the Scarlet Knights to take care of business in their three non-conference games, starting with Ohio.
Rutgers has several new faces on both sides of the ball, but it has stability at quarterback with the return of Athan Kaliakmanis. That should go a long way toward having a productive offense again this season.

Again, this will be a solid season-opening test for the Scarlet Knights. This isn't going to be an easy non-conference game by any means. Ohio does have a new head coach in Brian Smth, who replaces Tim Albin after he left to take the head coaching job at Charlotte. The Bobcats will also have a new-look offensive line and had they had to replace several starters on defense. For Rutgers offensively, it'll be about getting its running game going early, opening up the field for Kaliakmanis to go to work in the passing game. And defensively, the Scarlet Knights will have to limit the Bobcats at the skill positions, where they return multiple key contributors.
