Roma and Marseille Reportedly Both Want Liverpool’s Tsimikas

The Serie A side look like an ideal landing spot for Kostas Tsimikas but appear to only want to bring him in on loan.

Over the weekend, Roma emerged as a potential destination for third-choice Liverpool left back Kostas Tsimikas, with the 29-year-old Greek defender having been dislodged on the depth chart by the arrival of Milos Kerkez this summer and widely expected to depart in search of playing time.

It’s an unfortunate situation for Liverpool’s Greek Scouser, who is widely believed to be looking for a home that will afford him European football and a path to a starting role. To that end, Roma would certainly fit the bill, and he has also been linked with a return to Olympiacos. Both moves, though, would almost certainly be loans.

Today, reliable reports out of Italy are reiterating as much. Roma want Tsimikas, and on paper is seems like a perfect fit, but it would only be a loan—though previous chatter has suggested that some kind of an option or obligation to purchase the player in a year might be in play.

Those reports also bring a new potential suitor in Marseille. The French club are also in the Champions League, but the club have been a source of constant controversy and negative stories under manager Roberto De Zerbi. The latest being a significant training ground punch-up between Adrien Rabiot and Jonathan Rowe.

It’s always hard to say if footballers see clubs embroiled in controversy the same way as fans, but from the outside it’s hard not to think Roma would look a far better landing spot. Hopefully in any case a new home—albeit likely a short-term one on loan—that works for Tsimikas can be found.
