The Celtics have been busy this offseason, to say the least their front office basically turned roster moves into an art form lately. One of the most buzzed about additions so far is Anfernee Simons, who’s making the switch to Boston after his stint in Portland.

With a new city, new teammates and a fresh system to learn, there’s plenty for Simons to adjust to not to mention the fact that he’s got a shiny new nickname and an even shinier paycheck to match. Judging by the Celtics’ latest post on social media, they’re pretty fired up to have him in green.

The Celtics took to X to post a video of Simons’ highlights with a caption that said, “Anfernee Sizzle"

The Celtics’ busy offseason moves are finally official, but there’s a twist no one saw coming. At first, the deal was supposed to send Jrue Holiday to Portland for Anfernee Simons plus two second-round picks.

Well, scratch those picks they’re no longer part of the trade. According to Aaron Fentress of the Oregonian, Holiday’s medicals threw a wrench in the original plan, so Boston will just be getting Simons.

Let’s be real — it stings to see Jrue Holiday go. He was only in Boston for two years, but he made a massive impact, hitting clutch shots and locking down on defense. There’s no 2024 championship banner without him. But with his big extension still on the books for another $100 million over three years, moving him was kind of a necessary evil.

Swapping him for Simons, who’s on an expiring $27.7 million deal, trims about $5 million in salary and gives Boston a talented scorer who’ll be extra motivated playing for his next contract. They lose Jrue’s defense, but they gain some breathing room under the tax — and a guy who could be a lot of fun to watch.
