Coming off another disappointing second-round playoff exit, the Denver Nuggets entered the offseason looking to upgrade their roster around their core of Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon to chase another championship next season.

Denver started their offseason with a major move as they agreed to send Michael Porter Jr. and a 2032 first-round pick to the Brooklyn Nets for Cameron Johnson.

This was a surprising move by the Nuggets as they had been unwilling to move on from Porter Jr. over the last few seasons but this trade allowed them to add a sharpshooting forward in Johnson.

The trade also cleared cap space for the Nuggets to sign both Bruce Brown and Tim Hardaway Jr. and make a trade with the Sacramento Kings for Jonas Valanciunas this offseason.

On Tuesday, the Nuggets made an official announcement regarding their trade with the Nets and also posted a farewell message to Porter Jr.

“Thank you MPJ. Whishing you the best in your next chapter,” the Nuggets posted on X.

Fans took to the comments to send their farewells to Porter Jr. as well as many thanked him for helping bring a championship to Denver.

“Couldn’t have won in 23 without this man,” one fan commented.

“We’ll always be grateful for the ring. YEA MIKE,” another fan posted.

“You’ll be missed in Mile High City MPJ,” another fan commented.

“Thank you Mike good luck in Brooklyn,” another fan said.

While many fans wanted the Nuggets to trade Porter Jr. this offseason, it is clear that many will always remember the impact he made on the court for Denver, especially during their championship run in 2023.

Now Porter Jr. will head to Brooklyn where he will likely be the focal point of the offense in a larger role while Johnson will now become a key piece of Denver’s roster next season.
