It has been a very busy offseason thus far for the Phoenix Suns as they have made many changes to their roster and more moves may be coming.

Phoenix began their offseason by trading superstar forward Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the draft rights to Khaman Maluach and five second-round picks.

This was a massive move by the Suns and one that officially ended the big three era in Phoenix of Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal.

Of course, the trio did not live up to the lofty expectations assigned to them over the past few seasons, especially last year where they finished 11th in the Western Conference and missed the playoffs.

Though the Suns’ big three did not work out, they also failed to make changes to their roster to upgrade it around their big three and a recent report revealed who Durant wanted Phoenix to add to their roster last season.

In an interview with Basket News, former Detroit Pistons and current Miami Heat forward revealed that Durant wanted the Suns to acquire him last season.

“During a break in the game, Durant came up to me and told me, ‘We tried everything we could to get you here, but we couldn't do it.’ It was a great show of respect from a champion of the game and it made me realize how much he thought of me,” Fontecchio said.

This is a surprising comment by Fontecchio but one that does make sense as he would have been a solid fit on Phoenix’s roster last season.

The 29-year-old forward is a solid scorer and would have also brought size to the Suns’ roster, which they desperately needed.

Despite this, Phoenix failed to acquire Fontecchio last season despite Durant’s push for him as he instead spent the entire season in Detroit.

Now Fontecchio heads to Miami after he was part of the sign-and-trade that landed the Pistons Duncan Robinson during free agency.
