Lakers' Bronny James reportedly primed to make NBA history for second time

According to an NBA source, the Los Angeles Lakers' 20-year-old guard will be involved in another historic event.

Bronny James

Los Angeles Lakers guard Bronny James is no stranger to making NBA history.

The 20-year-old competed with his father, LeBron, in the Lakers’ season-opening contest against the Minnesota Timberwolves last year, allowing the James clan to become the first father-son duo to share the floor.

According to NBACentral, James is poised to make NBA history again, despite appearing in only 27 contests thus far.

“James will face off against Cooper Flagg on Day 1 of the Las Vegas Summer League, and it’s currently the most expensive Summer League ticket on record onTickPick, with an average price of $201.”

Flagg, like James, has received ample attention in the basketball world. The former Duke superstar forward has been deemed a can't-miss prospect destined for a successful career in the big leagues.

James, on the other hand, wasn’t a standout collegiate player, but his name helped him gain popularity before, during, and after the NBA draft process.

Many were certain that nepotism was involved in the Lakers' decision to draft the 4.8 points-per-game scorer late in the second round (No. 55 overall).

To the ex-McDonald’s All-American’s defense, he suffered a horrifying/life-threatening health scare before the 2023-24 college basketball season commenced (cardiac arrest).

Still, critics weren't sold that James possessed the upside necessary to hear his name on draft night.

As a first-year contributor, James did most of his damage in the G-League, averaging 21.9 points, 5.4 assists, and 5.2 rebounds per game with the South Bay Lakers.

Fortunately for James, an anonymous Western Conference executive believes the Akron, Ohio native will be more involved with the big dogs in 2025-26, possibly playing between 10 and 15 minutes per game.

Until then, fans will have the luxury of witnessing James go head-to-head with a future Dallas Mavericks All-Star in Flagg.
