Damian Lillard’s name has been all over NBA free agency chatter since the Milwaukee Bucks shocked everyone by waiving him on July 1. The nine-time All-Star guard is recovering from a torn Achilles and is expected to miss the 2025-26 season. Still, multiple teams, including the Boston Celtics, Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers, are reportedly monitoring his situation closely as he weighs his next move.
Amid all the speculation, Paul George chimed in with his own take on where Lillard should land and he’s got an unexpected pick. On a recent episode, George said, “Put him with Houston. I like that. That’s real nice.”
He explained that surrounding Lillard with length and defense would bring out the best in him, especially on a team like the Houston Rockets, where he wouldn't have to carry the entire load.
George added, “If it’s a smaller guard, pair him with length around him. I think that’s a great fit for him in Houston.”
He also floated Minnesota as a possibility, though he noted the distance from home and rookie Rob Dillingham’s development could complicate things.

As for Boston, rumors are heating up. Lillard reportedly had a “very successful meeting” with Brad Stevens, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. While some radio hosts have warned the Celtics against signing a ball-dominant player like Lillard especially given Joe Mazzulla’s preference for two-way contributors, the interest appears mutual.
Golden State also remains in the mix, but with Lillard likely sidelined until the 2026-27 season, timing is everything. He averaged 24.9 points and 7.1 assists last season, proving he still has value if the right situation comes along.
