Isaiah Campbell's last stint in MLB wasn't great.
It's not hard to imagine how the Boston Red Sox latest roster move could backfire.
The new call-up, Isaiah Campbell, has one ghastly number on his baseball card from his 2024 stint in Boston: a 16.20 ERA.
The Portuguese-born pitcher has been better at every other stop of his professional baseball life, but that's at least a little cause for concern. The Red Sox called Campbell up on Tuesday while sending down Richard Fitts.
Campbell made his MLB debut in 2023 for the Mariners and was much better, a 2.83 ERA in 27 games.
But then he had the nightmare stint for the Red Sox last season and hasn't been back since.

Campbell's performance at Triple-A Worcester this season has been encouraging. He has a 3.89 ERA in 30 appearances, striking out 33 batters in 39.1 innings pitched.
He was even better at Triple-A last season, with a 2.20 ERA.
Campbell has never been close to as bad as he was in those eight Red Sox appearances last season. Boston is hoping the larger sample size wins out here.
