Padres' Fernando Tatis Jr. reacts to Manny Machado's career milestone
Fernando Tatis Jr. Had Zero Words for Manny Machado After Padres' Loss originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The San Diego Padres started a four-game series on Monday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and in the first matchup, they lost 6-3, dropping their record to 48-42.
Despite San Diego's poor performance against a divisional opponent, fans still had a reason to celebrate the team, as third baseman Manny Machado became the 297th player to reach 2,000 career hits on a single during the fourth inning.
Even with the loss, it gave the team a reason to celebrate. After the game, outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. used his Instagram story to showcase one of the Padres' posts about the achievement, while using four clapping emojis.
This isn't the only major milestone that Machado has reached in 2025. In a game against the San Francisco Giants on June 5, he hit his 350th career home run, which is something only 103 players have done.
Overall, Machado's season has been solid, accumulating 345 at-bats, 101 hits, 54 runs scored, 15 home runs, 53 RBIs and 35 walks while slashing .293/.354/.484 with a .838 OPS, which leads the team among qualified hitters.
That strong performance on the field has not gone unnoticed either, as he will be making his seventh All-Star Game appearance after being named the starting third baseman for the National League.
That adds nicely to a career that also features two Gold Gloves, two Silver Sluggers, one Platinum Glove and five top-five MVP finishes.
He won't be the only member of the Padres represented at the All-Star Game, scheduled for July 15, as he will be joined by Tatis (third selection) and relief pitcher Jason Adam (first selection).
