Bayern Munich are going “strong” for Chelsea attacker Christopher Nkunku and have been in regular contact with the Blues according to Fabrizio Romano.
Nkunku’s Chelsea career appears to be over, and he’s fallen further down the pecking order following the arrival of Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens and Joao Pedro.
Chelsea are also still working on deals to sign Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho before the end of the window, which would further reduce his game time.
Bayern Munich step up Nkunku pursuit
Nkunku holds the key to Chelsea being able to push on and complete a deal for Simons, as they need the 27-year-old to leave in order to create space in the squad.
The France international has attracted interest from Inter Milan, but it appears his preferred destination is a return to the Bundesliga with Bayern.
Bayern opened talks with Chelsea earlier this week for Nkunku, although it’s believed their preference is a loan with a buy option.

However, Chelsea have made it clear they want a permanent sale, and are reportedly expecting €40m plus add ons for Nkunku.
Nkunku has already agreed personal terms with Bayern, and Romano has now provided an update on the situation.
“Bayern Munich are going strong for Christopher Nkunku,” he told his YouTube channel.
“From what I’m hearing, club-to-club contacts have been ongoing every day in the last four or five days. So now the two clubs are negotiating also the formula, the numbers and everything.
“The conversation is advancing between the two clubs, but it’s not a done deal at this stage.”
Chelsea need to sell to sign Simons
Moving Nkunku on is key for Chelsea’s pursuit of Simons, and they’ve been locked in negotiations with Leipzig for the past few weeks.
