New York might be looking elsewhere to fill that void.
Finding great backups is a struggle in this era of the NBA, and the New York Knicks are no stranger to that problem.
Over the past few weeks, the offseason has been in full swing in the NBA. While the Knicks haven’t exactly made much noise, they’ve quietly added some key pieces to the team for next season.
Of course, Mike Brown’s hiring has stolen the headlines for the Knicks recently, but the signings of Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele are among the top under-the-radar deals in free agency thus far. Both players project to play key roles off the bench for the Knicks next season, but New York still has a key problem to address.
Last season, the Knicks made the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in 25 years. Although the Knicks’ depth wasn’t often utilized in the regular season, Delon Wright played a key role for New York, especially as a backcourt defender, throughout the playoffs.
In Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus’ recent article, he predicted that the Knicks would move on from Wright, leaving the veteran looking for yet another new team. Of course, that could be a mistake for the Knicks.
Considering Wright is still unsigned, he could be a perfect player for the Knicks to add on a veteran’s minimum. After showing some flashes in the postseason, Wright might be an ideal piece for Brown’s bench unit.
Considering how tough it is to win a championship in this league, having Wright around might give New York a slight boost in the postseason.
