Some stories just feel right. Kyle Lowry coming home for one more run? That’s one of them. The Sixers have locked in the veteran guard for another season, keeping the North Philly native right where his basketball journey began.

Philadelphia signed Lowry to a one-year deal on Monday, setting him up for his 20th NBA season. Sixers president Daryl Morey made it clear why the team wanted him back. “Kyle’s championship experience and Hall-of-Fame resume speaks for itself,” Morey said. “It’s only fitting that his 20th NBA season will be right here in Philadelphia, the city he calls home.”

Lowry, now 39, isn’t expected to carry a heavy load on the court. He’s here to guide the next generation. All-Star Tyrese Maxey leads that group, alongside young guards Jared McCain and VJ Edgecombe. The Sixers also expect Quentin Grimes to return once they finalize a deal with the restricted free agent.

Last season, Lowry suited up for 35 games and made 12 starts. He battled through a hip injury, averaging 3.9 points and 2.7 assists while shooting 33% from deep. The numbers weren’t flashy, but his leadership mattered. His voice in the locker room helped steady a team looking to take the next step.

Lowry's road to this moment has come full circle. Before winning a championship with the Toronto Raptors in 2019 and earning six All-Star nods, he starred at Northeast and Cardinal Dougherty High Schools. Then came Villanova, where his Philadelphia roots grew deeper.

He may not light up the box score anymore. But make no mistake. Lowry's presence gives this young Sixers team something numbers can’t measure- heart, experience, and a link to the city’s basketball soul.
