Third baseman Alex Bregman is in his first season with the Boston Red Sox after nine seasons with the Houston Astros.

The Astros selected Bregman second overall in the 2015 MLB Draft and he debuted in 2016 at 22.

Bregman had an incredible tenure in Houston, securing two World Series championships and serving as an essential piece of eight consecutive playoff appearances from 2017–24. In his postseason career, he has hit 19 home runs, driven in 54 runs and maintained a .238 batting average in 99 games.

That success earned him a three-year, $120 million contract with the Red Sox this past offseason, including opt-out clauses after the first two seasons.

Bregman sustained a right quad strain while rounding first base during a game against the Baltimore Orioles on May 23. He was removed and placed on the injured list the next day.

On Monday, following Boston’s win over the Colorado Rockies, Bregman discussed his rehab progression: “Trending toward a return here really quickly, whether it’s the end of this week or the first game after the break. One of those two. But hoping it will be the end of this week.”

The 31-year-old third baseman has continued to excel in Boston and on Sunday was selected to his first All-Star Game as a member of the Red Sox, marking his third appearance.

In 51 games this season, Bregman is batting .299 with an .938 OPS, 11 home runs and 35 RBIs, showcasing that he remains at his peak offensively. His eventual return will provide Boston’s lineup with a much-needed boost; the Red Sox are currently 47–45 and sit two games out of a wild-card spot.
