The Sacramento Kings entered the NBA offseason looking to upgrade their roster as they try to bounce back after missing the playoffs once again last season.

Sacramento began their offseason by making a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder to move into the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft where they selected Nique Clifford 24th overall.

They then used their second-round pick to draft Maxime Raynaud to upgrade their frontcourt depth.

The Kings then entered free agency with one major area of need as they looked to upgrade their point guard position, which they struggled with last season after trading De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs at the trade deadline.

That is exactly what the Kings were able to do as they signed Dennis Schroder in free agency, though it did not become official until Monday.

On Monday, ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel reported that the Kings have officially acquired Schroder from the Detroit Pistons in a sign-and-trade deal.

Siegel reported that the Kings are using their Kevin Huerter $16.8 million exception to take on Schroder’s contract and that they are sending a protected 2026 second-round pick to Detroit while receiving a 2029 second-round pick along with Schroder from the Pistons.

With this move, the Kings have now filled their void at the starting point guard position as Schroder will now enter next season in that role.

For Schroder, he will give the Kings a veteran point guard who is a great scorer and playmaker who should fit well next to their core of Domantas Sabonis, DeMar DeRozan, Zach Lavine and Keegan Murray.

Last season, the 31-year-old spent time with the Brooklyn Nets and Golden State Warriors before being traded to Detroit as part of the Jimmy Butler trade at the deadline.

Now Schroder heads to Sacramento where he will become a starting point guard one again as the Kings hope to turn their franchise around and compete for a playoff spot.
