Would Caitlin Clark really leave the Fever?
Caitlin Clark Makes Surprising Comment About Her Fever Future originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Caitlin Clark was selected No. 1 overall by the Indiana Fever in the 2024 WNBA draft. Since then, she’s become a must-watch for fans not just in Indiana but around the world.
Her passing—averaging 8.9 assists per game this season—and her three-point shooting—hitting 39.0%—are second to none.
In just over a season, she’s already won Rookie of the Year, led the league in assists, earned All-WNBA First-Team honors and two All-Star nods and more.
While it’s still early in the 23-year-old’s WNBA career, many can’t picture her in anything but a Fever jersey. On Monday, the team held an open scrimmage for their MVP season ticket holders, and afterward, players stayed on the court for a panel-style Q&A.
Clark was asked how she’s made Indianapolis feel like home, and instead of saying she hopes to spend many years or retire as a Fever player, she simply said she "hopes to play here for a few more years."
"Oh, gosh. I mean, I'm from the midwest, so this was one of the top places I wanted to come out of college, and I feel like the adjustment has been pretty easy, and our fans have been amazing, and have amazing teammates, so I certainly love it here, and hopefully I'll get to play here for a few more years," Clark said.

Girl you said earlier in the season that you and Ty want to play here the rest of yall career 😂 https://t.co/wYNkcUy2TQ
It was only a month ago that Clark said she wants to end her career with the Fever.
"Ty [Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton] and I would both tell you this is where we both hope to stay the rest of our careers," Clark told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.
Regardless of Clark’s comments in June, the fan clearly seemed surprised by her "a few more years" response based on the reaction. At the end of Clark’s answer, the fan could be heard saying, "A lot more!"
