Former Knicks guard Quentin Grimes gets 76ers contract update

Things haven't been ideal for the former Knicks guard.

The New York Knicks once thought they had something with Quentin Grimes, and they probably weren't wrong with that assessment after what he did for the Philadelphia 76ers in the second half of last season.

If the Knicks could go back and redo that trade with the Detroit Pistons, it's almost certain that they would.

Grimes is a very good player and is rather cheap because of where the market stands right now. He would’ve gotten more money had he stayed with the Knicks all these years, but even then, it likely wouldn't have been too much.

However, according to a recent article from the Boston Globe, things aren't looking too good for the youngster. Reports have suggested that he wants $25 million per year, but the Globe believes that he'll return to Philadelphia and become an unrestricted free agent again next summer.

“The 76ers guard had a breakout stretch after being acquired from the Mavericks and now he reportedly wants $25 million per season, so therefore he has no offers. Teams that make offers to restricted free agents need salary cap space, meaning teams can’t drive up the market price with no intention of honoring the deal. Grimes is likely to return to Philadelphia and then become an unrestricted free agent next summer,” they wrote.

Grimes played better than ever in the second half of last year, which is a bit concerning for other teams around the league to consider.

He averaged 21.9 points in 28 games, shooting 46.9% from the field in 37.3% from 3-point range. There were nights when he looked to be one of the better players in the league, which he certainly wasn't with the Knicks or any other stop in his career.

However, he did what he had to do, and for that reason alone, he should eventually be paid, even if it's not this summer.
