The Subway Series took place this week in Queens at Citi Field, and while the New York Yankees came away with a 6–4 win on Sunday, they ultimately dropped two out of three to the New York Mets.

On the season, the two teams have now faced off six times, splitting the series evenly with three wins apiece—each taking full advantage of their home field.

Following Sunday’s win, Yankees superstar Aaron Judge had strong words about the Mets and former Yankees teammate Juan Soto, who signed a massive 15-year deal with the Mets this offseason after helping lead the Yankees to the World Series. His departure left a bitter taste in the mouths of many Yankees fans.

"The Mets are the Mets. They’ve got a great ball club—it starts with their manager," Judge said. "Mendy, I’ve seen for years here. He’s gonna get the boys fired up, ready to go, and it’s a great ball club."

Judge continued, "They’ve got a great pitching staff, their whole lineup is deep, and they added a guy like Juan Soto right in the middle of it. It’s always a tough matchup, so they’ve been one of the toughest teams we’ve faced all year, and hopefully looking forward to seeing them down the road."

Both Aaron Judge and Juan Soto have had tremendous 2025 campaigns, but following Sunday’s game—where Judge hit yet another home run—it was revealed that Soto had been left off the National League All-Star Team. That news came just days after Judge was officially named captain of the American League squad.

Judge is currently leading the league with a .360 batting average, along with 33 home runs and 70 RBIs. He’s also posted an astounding 1.202 OPS—the best in all of Major League Baseball.

As for Soto, his All-Star snub came as a major surprise, especially considering that his Mets teammates Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, and Edwin Díaz were all selected. Statistically, Soto’s production is unquestionably All-Star caliber.

He’s batting .264 with 21 home runs, 51 RBIs, and a .904 OPS. According to OptaStats analyst Greg Harvey, Soto is now the first player in MLB history to record at least 20 home runs, 70 walks, 15 doubles, and 10 stolen bases before the All-Star break and not be selected to the team.
