Ex-Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernández has late this week sent a public message of support the way of Blaugrana goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen.
This, of course, comes fresh off what was an altogether difficult week for the German in Catalunya’s capital.
Already under fire from all angles amid mounting claims regarding questionable recent behaviour, Ter Stegen over recent days emerged as public enemy number 1 at Barcelona.
This came after the shot-stopper left the club hamstrung, in refusing to sign off on a medical report drawn up regarding his recent surgery.
The Camp Nou brass, in turn, went as far as to strip Ter Stegen of the captain’s armband in Hansi Flick’s squad.
The situation has since been resolved to at least some extent, with a change of heart on the part of the 33-year-old having culminated in his captaincy status being restored.
Even prior to as much, though, Ter Stegen had already received the backing of the aforementioned Xavi.
Taking to the comments section of his former teammate’s heartfelt letter to the Barcelona fanbase on Friday, Blaugrana icon Xavi wrote:
‘Always exemplary’
