The Los Angeles Lakers made a new addition to their coaching staff.
The Los Angeles Lakers have made a new addition to their coaching staff after their unfortunate first-round playoff loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves last season.
On Saturday, the organization hired a beloved former Duke coach to help with their player development.
"Congrats to our guy J-Rob (Justin Robinson)," Duke Men's Basketball wrote on X/Twitter. "Nice addition to the Lakers staff.
Robinson, the son of Hall of Famer David Robinson, played four seasons at Duke during his collegiate playing days.
The San Antonio, Texas native wasn’t a regular member of Coach Krzyzewski's rotation. Still, his non-stop support and infectious energy from the bench transformed him into a fan favorite in Durham.
Robinson averaged 1.5 points, 0.8 rebounds, and 0.2 assists per game for his career, shooting 50.8% from the field in 56 total contests.

After graduating in 2020, Robinson spent three years playing professional basketball overseas in Montenegro and Israel before getting hired as Duke’s player development coach in 2023.
Considering rookies such as Cooper Flagg, Kon Knueppel, and Khaman Maluach improved with time at Duke with Robinson guiding them every step of the way, it’s safe to say he’s earned the right to take his talents to the next level.
There’s no question the 28-year-old has the personality and coaching tactics required to help players not only feel comfortable in his presence but also enjoy immense success on the hardwood.
With young assets such as Bronny James and Dalton Knecht hoping to make a significant leap in Year 2, Robinson should be thrilled to mentor the 20- and 24-year-olds.
