The San Antonio Spurs could pull off a massive swap for a superstar frontcourt talent.
The San Antonio Spurs' 2024 Rookie of the Year award winner and first-time All-Star in 2025, Victor Wembanyama, possesses an incredible skillset at 7-foot-3, and he'll aim to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a guaranteed postseason berth next season.
In an effort to quickly re-enter the fray as a true title contender in 2025-26, one NBA writer has suggested that the Spurs could negotiate a trade to land an all-time great potential frontcourt partner for their rising superstar.
Wembanyama has yet to play alongside another versatile, imposing center through his first two seasons as a member of the Spurs, but an ambitious trade proposal has the generational prospect teaming up with 2023 NBA MVP and 7-time All-Star from the Philadelphia 76ers, Joel Embiid.
"A frontcourt of Embiid and Wembanyama would be so terrifying to deal with," ClutchPoints' Jedd Pagaduan wrote Saturday.
"Wembanyama has the range and mobility to be a pest on defense every which way, while Embiid can be parked closer to the basket and deal with the bigger post brutes that could give Wemby trouble."
"Skilled size reigns supreme in the NBA, and having two of the best centers in the NBA would make the Spurs an unstoppable force."

If the Spurs were to be interested in a league-altering swap for the 2-time scoring champion big man, Pagaduan's trade concept would have the Spurs shipping out Devin Vassell, Harrison Barnes, Jeremy Sochan and three first-round draft choices to the 76ers in exchange.
At a glance, this trade idea appears incredibly far-fetched.
At a prolonged stare, that conclusion remains the same.
Even still, the idea of a healthy Embiid joining forces with Wembanyama to challenge the defending 2025 NBA champion champion Oklahoma City Thunder and Kevin Durant-led Houston Rockets in the Western Conference could prove to be a tempting one for San Antonio's front office.
The only problem is that the supremely skilled 7-foot, 280-pound talent simply cannot stay healthy.
In just 19 appearances for Philadelphia in 2024-25, Embiid contributed 23.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists, but lingering knee problems ended his season prematurely. Prior to the beginning of the 2025-26 campaign, Embiid has competed in roughly 50.1% of a possible 902 career regular-season contests, an unfortunate figure for one of the league's brightest stars.
San Antonio offering to give away an enticing package consisting of Vassell, Sochan and first-round draft capital for Embiid instead of the Milwaukee Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo or another potentially disgruntled superstar remains highly unlikely, but it goes without saying that Wembanyama and Embiid's potential pairing would be a no-brainer if good health were to ever persist for the latter.
