San Antonio's point guard is in a tough spot.
The San Antonio Spurs have a decision to make.
De'Aaron Fox is eligible for a massive contract extension. Will they pay him?
At this point, it's not clear. What we know is this: As of Sunday, Aug. 3, Fox is eligible to sign a four-year, $229 million max extension.
Fox is entering the final year of his contract. He'll be paid $37.1 million in 2025-26, and currently would become a free agent after the season.
This will be Fox's first full season with the Spurs after being traded from Sacramento.
Fox played in 17 games after his acquisition by San Antonio. He averaged 19.7 points, 6.8 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game while struggling from beyond the arc.
At his peak, the 27-year old Fox is probably worth a max contract.

The Spurs have a tricky setup to justify that kind of contract, though.
They have Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle, a combo guard.
They just drafted No. 2 overall pick Dylan Harper, too, a point guard out of Rutgers.
Does Fox fit the future picture here?
He was a logical trade fit, an established star to pair with Victor Wembanyama. But the Wemby contention window goes on a lot longer than Fox's prime, so there's a true decision to make here.
Don't be surprised for this to drag on a bit while everyone tries to make sense of this potential deal. There are a lot of pieces in play.
