Dodgers new outfielder named one of the best prospects dealt over the trade deadline

Bleacher Report believes the Los Angeles Dodgers acquired one of the league’s best prospects available at the trade deadline.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are currently sitting at 64-47 overall and in first place in the National League West. While that record puts them on pace to have a similar record to last year’s championship team, the road to a repeat is a little bit muddier in 2025.

The National League looks a lot more formidable this season, so it’s no wonder that the Dodgers were aggressive over the trade deadline to address their weaknesses. One of the most damaging flaws on this roster heading into the deadline was in the outfield.

The front office, fortunately, addressed this need for the present with the addition of Alex Call, and potentially for the future as well. In the Dustin May trade to the Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles acquired 2024 No. 13 overall pick James Tibbs III.

While the 22-year-old lefty has yet to make his big league debut, he has all the attributes to be a quality outfielder in the near future. Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter subsequently named Tibbs III as the fifth-best prospect dealt over the trade deadline, giving the following justification.

“The No. 13 overall pick in the 2024 draft, James Tibbs III has now been traded twice this season after going from the San Francisco Giants to the Boston Red Sox in the Rafael Devers blockbuster earlier this year”, Reuter notes.

“He hit .363/.488/.777 with 28 home runs and 95 RBI during his junior season at Florida State and was viewed as one of the more MLB-ready bats in the 2024 draft class, which he has backed up by reaching Double-A in his first full professional season.

The 22-year-old has a .763 OPS with 12 doubles, 13 home runs, and 38 RBI in 86 games this season, and he has the potential to develop into a middle of the order run producer with a relatively high floor as an everyday player.”

Time will tell whether the Atlanta native can contribute on the main roster. But adding Tibbs III is a wise move for the Dodgers, who want to be a title contender now and for the foreseeable future.
