Sophie sparks Fourth of July buzz.
Sophie Cunningham Shares Fourth of July Post Amid Indiana Fever Hype originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
As the Indiana Fever stride into the second half of the 2025 WNBA season off a three-game winning streak, the team’s 9-8 record places them third in the highly competitive Eastern Conference.
After claiming the midseason Commissioner's Cup with a 74-59 win over the Minnesota Lynx, the Fever celebrated a dominant 81-54 home victory over the Las Vegas Aces on Thursday.
Star guard Caitlin Clark sat out both contests.
Front and center in Indiana’s supporting cast stands 28‑year‑old guard Sophie Cunningham, whose veteran presence has provided steady contributions off the bench.
Yet, it was her latest post on Friday that captured fans' attention.
In a festive Instagram post, Cunningham celebrated the Fourth of July, captioning it, "happy fourth 🇺🇸🍻🌭 hug your ppl tight, drink a cold one, and blast Toby Keith all day for me."
Acquired in a four‑team trade earlier in the year, Cunningham immediately brought tenacity and defensive grit to a roster already led by All-Stars Clark, Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston.
In her first 12 games this season with the Fever, she’s averaged 5.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 22.3 minutes per game.
As one of the WNBA's hottest teams, the Fever will look to maintain momentum into the remainder of July.
Upcoming matchups against conference rivals, including a pivotal July 11 contest at home versus the Atlanta Dream and back-to-back away games against the New York Liberty, will put Indiana to the test.
For Cunningham, continuing to deliver on both ends of the floor will be central to her and the Fever’s success in the second half of the season.
