New York Mets infielder Brett Baty has been two different players this season. The 6-foot-3-inch, 210-pounder slashed .222/.271/.378 in April, .290/.333/.581 in May, and .195/.259/.312 in June.
Baty was also 0-for-8 with one RBI and one run scored in July before Friday's bout with the New York Yankees, and he hadn't hit a homer since June 14. However, the 25-year-old went yard off of right-handed reliever Ian Hamilton in the sixth. The 370-foot solo shot to right brought the score to 5-4 in favor of the Yankees.
New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson gave his thoughts about the home run on social media.
"Baty bomb, stop playn," he said.
Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil followed up with a two-run homer in the seventh to give them a 6-5 lead.

Baty's homer was his ninth of the season, which ties his career high. The veteran hit nine home runs with 34 RBI over 108 games in 2023.
The Mets and Yankees both entered Friday's matchup in second place. The Mets were one game behind the Philadelphia Phillies after the latter team's 9-6 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Friday, while the Yankees were one game behind the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Yankees and Mets will finish out the last Subway Series of the season on Saturday and Sunday at Citi Field. After that, the Mets will hit the road to face the Baltimore Orioles and Kansas City Royals while the Yankees go home to host the Seattle Mariners and Chicago Cubs.
