The Golden State Warriors will be thrilled with the idea that their problems at the center position may soon be solved. Al Horford is reportedly leaning towards making the Bay Area his last stop in the NBA.
Jake Fischer reported in his latest rumor mill intel that the Warriors have emerged as the frontrunners for Horford's services. It will just take some time to have that decision and move is finalized.
"All signs, for the record, continue to point to Al Horford landing with Golden State … eventually," Fischer stated. "Sunday will be the first day of the 2025-26 salary cap year that NBA teams can make most free agent signings and trades official."
There is good news to be found in the fact that this addition could provide stability for 2025-26. However, Shams Charania had his own piece of intel recently that should be raising eyebrows for the Warriors front office.
Charania stated during an appearance on SportsCenter that the Warriors are not the only major option the veteran center is considering. Los Angeles Lakers aside, it is the last part of that statement which should cause the most concern.
"I'm told he is reviewing multiple options including the Warriors, the Lakers, but also retirement," Charania said. "He is 39 years old. He just finished season 18. I'm told it would be a surprise if he makes a final decision by this weekend. He certainly has earned the right to make a decision at his own time."
Having someone playing an integral role on the roster when they potentially have one foot out the door is troublesome. Granted, it is completely understandable for Horford to consider riding off into the sunset.
Even so, the Warriors are hoping to compete for a championship ring in 2025-26. They will need every bit that Horford has left in the tank.
No one is unaware that retirement is around the corner for the veteran free agent. However, the Warriors are in a position where they will need Horford to start and perform like that is not the case just yet.
