To trade for reliever Codi Heuer, the Detroit Tigers sent cash considerations to the Texas Rangers. Heuer has been assigned to Triple-A Toledo.
The Detroit Tigers have added to their bullpen depth.
The Tigers traded for right-handed reliever Codi Heuer from the Texas Rangers on Thursday, July 31, less than four hours before the MLB trade deadline. To acquire Heuer, the Tigers sent cash considerations to the Rangers.
The 29-year-old will report to Triple-A Toledo.
Heuer has a 3.43 ERA with 15 walks and 53 strikeouts over 39⅓ innings in 35 games at Triple-A Round Rock in the Rangers' organization. He also owns a 3.61 ERA in his 87-game MLB career, spanning 92⅓ innings out of the bullpen.
To this point, Heuer has appeared in parts of three MLB seasons with three teams: Chicago White Sox (2020-21), Chicago Cubs (2021) and Ranges (2025).
Heuer has appeared in one game this season with the Rangers.
He underwent Tommy John surgery in March 2022.
He needed another elbow surgery in July 2023.
Left-handed reliever Dietrich Enns — who pitched for Central Michigan in college — was designated for assignment by the Tigers to create a spot for Heuer on the 40-man roster. In 2025, Enns posted a 5.60 ERA with four walks and 15 strikeouts across 17⅔ innings in seven games (two starts).
