The Chicago Cubs will not place outfielder Ian Happ on the injured list after he fouled a pitch off his left shin in Tuesday night's contest against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Happ led off the eighth inning and fouled a pitch off his left shin. He began to feel lightheaded, hobbled over to the Cubs' dugout, and left the game immediately.

After the game, Happ had x-rays done, and they returned negative, which was a positive sign then. However, there was a fear that the Cubs' outfielder would hit the injured list, but journalist Bruce Levine reports that Happ won't be heading to the IL.

“Just squared it up. Felt a little lightheaded there and didn’t want to pass out on the field, so made my way down the tunnel," Happ said after the game (h/t Marquee Sports Network). "That was as bad as I’ve had it. Not the pain thing, it’s the lightheadedness and feeling like you might not make it off the field. So, in that situation just getting out of there.”

Happ did spend time on the IL earlier this season. In mid-May, the Cubs' outfielder missed 11 days with an oblique strain and had struggled for a while after returning. However, recently, Happ has picked it back up at the plate.

Already reeling from back-to-back losses, the Cubs can breathe a sigh of relief with Happ avoiding the injured list. The Cubs did announce they've recalled young catcher Moisés Ballesteros from Triple-A Iowa, but the move come with the DFA of Vidal Brujan, not the loss of Happ to the IL.

After entering the week tied with the Brewers atop the National League Central, the Cubs have dropped the series' first two games to fall two games back in the division.

The Cubs and Brewers finish their series on Wednesday afternoon as the two teams send their aces, Shota Imanaga and Freddy Peralta, to the mound. The Cubs will lean on Imanaga, who'd delivered three straight quality starts before his last rough outing, to avoid the sweep in Milwaukee on Wednesday.
