The Astros may look to bring back Carlos Correa after Isaac Paredes' potentially season-ending injury.
Astros Mulling Reunion With Beloved Slugger Carlos Correa After Isaac Paredes Injury originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Houston Astros have a litany of injuries to their rotation and lineup, and as such will likely be highly active in the final two days of this year's Trade Deadline.
The latest injury was to resurgent third baseman Isaac Paredes, who the Astros acquired in the deal that sent Kyle Tucker to Chicago. Paredes, whose hamstring injury is reportedly higher in severity than was projected, joined Jeremy Pena, Zach Dezenzo, Jake Meyers and Yordan Alvarez as top Astros hitters to hit the injured list.
At this time of year, even the loftiest of names are mixed into discussions. This has included Yankees slugger Cody Bellinger, and in the Astros' case, Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado, who Houston has been linked to before.
Along with Arenado, however, the Astros are reportedly mulling a trade for a familiar, and beloved playoff hero.
According to MLB.com's Brian McTaggart, who covers the Astros, the team has a 'very real' interest in reuniting with Carlos Correa, who won the 2015 Rookie of the Year award with Houston and led the team to four division titles, three pennants and a 2017 World Series title.
Correa's departure in 2022 was unfortunate for Astros fans, as the former top prospect declined the Astros' five-year, $160 million contract offer in favor of a more lucrative and flexible offer from the Minnesota Twins.
Of course, the Astros' pursuit of Correa has much to do with how the Eugenio Suarez sweepstakes shape up; the Astros are one of several teams interested in trading for the 36-home-run slugger as a rental for the rest of the year. One of the teams linked to Suarez is the Mariners, a division rival.
If Suarez goes elsewhere, the Astros will hone in on their pursuit of either Correa or Arenado. Correa has $103.5 million remaining on his contract through 2028 with four club options, while Arenado has three years and $74 million remaining on his contract, which would require him waiving his no-trade clause.
One would have to imagine general manager Dana Brown is hard at work looking to fortify the Astros' infield spots, and the revelation over their interest in Correa adds another dimension to a potential fire sale by the Twins.
